Browse the opportunities below for some ideas, and if you want to start the process of becoming a volunteer, fill out the application and we will look for a good fit!  Consider volunteering as a Tutor, Van Driver, Receptionist, Pop Can Returner, Tutor, Brotherhood & Sisterhood Leader, or Food Preparer.    

Escape Zone Tutor 

Description: 

The Escape Zone tutor will work with the Education Team to help middle & high school students progress in their schoolwork and develop tools to become more successful students. 

Hours: Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, 3pm – 5:30pm 

Duties: 

-Work one-on-one and/or with a small group of students to help them complete homework, understand and organize class materials, navigate Google Classroom and/or Odysseyware, check grades, and plan for best outcomes. 

-Use creative and effective techniques to build trust and rapport with students and help them navigate life challenges 

-Uphold the values and culture of Escape Ministries, operating from a trauma-informed, equity-minded, and faith-based posture. 

-(Optional) Assist staff with student transportation in Escape vehicles, engaging meaningfully with students as we pick them up from school and drop them off at home. 

Sample Schedule:  

3:00pm – Arrive at Escape – Assist with check-in, actively supervise & engage with students 

3:20pm – Family Meeting 

3:30pm – Tutoring students 

4:20pm – Break, Engage w/ students 

4:30pm – Engage w/ students in free time and/or as they finish & clean up 

5:20pm – Engage with students and/or debrief with staff in van. 

 


ASAP Volunteer Tutor: 

Description: 

The Escape Zone tutor will work with the Education Team to help students who have been suspended or expelled from school progress in their schoolwork and develop tools to become more successful students. 

Hours: Mondays, Tuesdays, and/or Thursdays between 9am and 1pm. 

Duties: 

-Work one-on-one and/or with a small group of students to help them complete homework, understand lessons, navigate Google Classroom and/or Odysseyware, check grades, and plan for best outcomes. 

-Use creative and effective techniques to build trust and rapport with students and help them navigate life challenges 

-Uphold the values and culture of Escape Ministries, operating from a trauma-informed, equity-minded, and faith-based posture. 

-(Optional) Assist staff with student transportation in Escape vehicles, engaging meaningfully with students as we pick them up from school and drop them off at home. 

Specific day(s) and hours will be agreed upon with your supervisor prior to beginning as you participate in the following daily schedule:

ASAP Volunteer Van Rider: 

Description: 

The Van Rider will be present in the Escape van to assist the driver with navigation, actively supervise youth in the van, and create an enjoyable and safe environment for everyone in the van. 

Hours:  

(ASAP Crew) M-F: 8am-9am; 1pm-2pm.  

(Tutoring Crew) Tue/Thu 2:15pm-3:15pm; 5:15pm-6:15pm 

Specific day(s) and hours will be agreed upon between you and Escape prior to beginning. 

Duties: 

Sit strategically in the van to create the best environment possible. This may sometimes mean in the back, and sometimes in the front. 

-Use creative and effective techniques to build trust and rapport with students and help them navigate life challenges 

-Assist with navigation for the driver and navigate to safety in an emergency 

-Uphold the values and culture of Escape Ministries, operating from a trauma-informed, equity-minded, and faith-based posture.

Escape Volunteer Van Driver: 

Description: 

The Van Driver will safely navigate the roads as they pick up and/or drop off students, being aware of students’ activity and the van, and create an enjoyable and safe environment for everyone in the van. 

Hours:  

(Tutoring Crew) Tue/Thu 2:15pm-3:15pm; 5:15pm-6:15pm 

Specific day(s) and hours will be agreed upon between you and Escape prior to beginning. 

Duties: 

Arrive at destinations in a timely manner while maintaining safety as a top priority. 

-Work with Van Rider to actively supervise youth activity in the van (shut down & report swearing, violence, vaping, etc.) 

-Work with Van Rider to communicate changes, issues, or successes to Escape staff. 

-Uphold the values and culture of Escape Ministries, operating from a trauma-informed, equity-minded, and faith-based posture. 

-Must present a valid Driver’s License and have a relatively clean driving record, approved by Escape’s insurer.

Dinner Provider for The Fam. 

Description: 

The Dinner Provider will provide a wholesome meal for approximately 25 people for middle/high school students and leaders. 

Hours:  

Dinner should be dropped off at Escape prior to 5:30pm on Wednesday evening.  

Notes: 

-Your Escape contact will let you know ahead of time if there are food allergies/preferences to be aware of, and if the number of people fluctuates significantly. 

-Our kitchen has a freezer, refrigerator, crock pots, an outdoor grill, and microwaves. We have plates, bowls, cups, and plastic utensils. We do not have the ability to heat items up on a stove. 

-You may stay to serve your prepared dinner, or leave it for self-serve. 

-If you leave your personal dishes, it is recommended you stick your name to them somewhere. We will wash them and leave them in the front office where they can be picked up. Please pick them up within the week! 

-Uphold the values and culture of Escape Ministries, operating from a trauma-informed, equity-minded, and faith-based posture. 

-Our students have done well with the following meals, as examples: Lasagna, Fajitas, Pulled Pork, Pasta, Sub Sandwiches, Pizza, Chili, Chicken Chili, Fried Chicken, General Tso’s Chicken w/ Fried Rice, Meatballs, Burgers, Chicken Sandwiches and others.

Volunteer Can & Bottle Team Member 

Description: 

The Can & Bottle Team Member will help execute a routine operation with Escape youth assistance to return bags of cans & bottles to Meijer, collect bottle receipts from youth, and return to Escape staff. 

Hours:  

Monday and/or Friday; 2:45pm-5:45pm 

Duties: 

-Arrive at destinations in a timely manner while maintaining safety as a top priority. 

Actively supervise youth activity (count receipts to watch for stealing, shut down & report swearing, violence, vaping, etc.) 

-Park the trailer safely & strategically. Unload bags of cans with students. Return cans with students in the Meijer Can & Bottle room. Ask for staff help to clean/fix machines.  

-Collect all bottle receipts in a ziploc bag, collecting receipts from youth each time before they exit the bottle room and making sure their total amount lines up with their cart. 

Be courteous to other patrons and Meijer staff as operations often get crowded and slow.

Administrative Director

Job Description 

Position: Administrative Director 

Status: Part Time; 24-30 hours weekly, flexible between 8:30am – 5:00pm 

Pay Range: $20 per hour 

Reports to:  Executive Director

Position Summary: The Administrative Director provides high quality administrative leadership to the front office through active participation in the office’s day-to-day operational functions.  They support the organization and staff in developing and maintaining policies and procedures, interacting with hospitality to our community, recording accurate records of donor giving and information, bookkeeping, maintaining personnel files, assisting in the onboarding of volunteers, and supervising office volunteers.  The Administrative Director is supervised by the Executive Director and works in partnership with the Associate Executive Director.  The Administrative Director will have a heart for the Kingdom of God, a passion for Christ and embrace the mission and vision of Escape YFGK (Escape Ministries). 

Position Responsibilities 

Administration 

  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring office facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained 
  • Answer phones, welcome guests and direct people to the appropriate staff or resource.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and services (in accordance with the budget) to support the administration, operation, and programs for the organization 
  • Process volunteer applications, including background and reference checks 
  • Maintain upkeep of our website, Instagram, and Facebook presence in alignment with our marketing strategy to promote the great work that Escape is doing to inform, inspire and call to action our stakeholders. 
  • Process receipts, mailings and other information and ensuring they are distributed to the appropriate person or place. 
  • Secure and maintain contracts with vendors and suppliers. 
  • Maintain complete and accurate files on all employees and volunteers 
  • Monitor and implement policy and procedures for staff and volunteers and review regularly so that they reflect best practices for the ministry 
  •  

Fiscal Management  

  • Serve as the primary liaison with our outside accounting firm 
  • Monitor and record all expenses following approved accounting and basic bookkeeping procedures
  • Monitor staff schedules and timekeeping to ensure accurate payroll 
  • Monitor all donations and ensure they are recorded accurately in the donor database
  • Develop procedure for donations to be processed and accepted
  • Bank all donations - Prepare deposits/finances for weekly deposits- fleshed out more 
  • Submit all invoices and expenditures to accounting firm for payment and processing 
  • Prepare current account balances for each Board meeting 
  • Participate in development and implementation of annual budget  
  • Record and track expenditures of grant funds and assist in the reporting of the use of grant funds and their results. 
  • Record donor information into donor database (DonorView) and provide reports as requested.

Ministry Fleet Stewardship  

  • Create policy and procedure for ministry vehicle reservation and accident/incident reporting 
  • Ensure ministry vehicles are prepared with emergency/roadside kit, PPE equipment, sanitizer, First Aid and current registration and insurance information 
  • Ensure travel logs are in each vehicle with completed destination and mileage and turned in by designated time 
  • Maintain proper vehicle insurance and registration, updating tags and necessary documentation is in each vehicle 
  • Schedule routine maintenance and service of ministry vehicles 

Certification/Skills 

  • Education and experience in personnel management, supervision and bookkeeping 
  • Organizational skills in office and fiscal management  
  • Familiar with Ottawa County community structure and resources  
  • Ability to maintain a positive work culture 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Google Suite and Canva  
  • Competent in accounting software – preferably experience with QuickBooks 
  • Ability to work independently and to problem solve  
  • Commitment to respect confidential information of programs, staff, families, donors, vendors, and volunteers  
  • Ability to update websites and post current information
  • Able to pass background check and drug screening
  • Experience working with diverse populations and demonstrated ability for cultural competency 
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan and manage multiple platforms 
  • Leadership skills and understanding of group dynamics, problem solving, decision making and delegation 
  • Ability to train, develop and supervise office volunteers 
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills 
  • Licensed and insured driver, with clean driving record and ability to drive a 12-passenger van 
  • First Aid/CPR certification (required within three months of hire date)

Tutoring

Helping middle and high school students navigate assignments and understand the material is key to development!

Tue/Thu 3-4:45, and some time slots in the mornings.

Meals

We provide 10 meals & snacks per week to our students, mostly provided by volunteers.

Can Returner

Our youth teams cash hundreds of dollars in cans & bottles every week. You can help with this operation!

Van Driver / Rider

We make 15-20 weekly rounds to pick up or drop off our students, with 2 adults in the vehicle for safety. Help is always needed, 8am, 1pm, 2pm, or 5pm!

Receptionist

Help receive visitors and students, direct phone calls, and assist with office tasks.

Gym Assistant

Help Coach Ruben train athletes, care for equipment, and create a great gym environment, Mon-Thu 4-7pm
