Education Director

Job Description

Position: Education Director
Status: Full-Time, Salaried
Pay Range: $35,000-$40,000
Position Summary: The Education Director will develop, plan, and implement education programming for Escape YFGK (Escape Ministries). The Education Director works in partnership with Associate Executive Director and Learning Coaches to ensure every student (6-12) is equipped with academic and personal tools to successfully graduate from high school and transition to college and career successfully. It includes implementing school year and summer academic support curriculum, mentoring, tutoring, college field trips, career exploration and parent involvement. The Education Director will have a heart for the Kingdom of God, a passion for Christ and embrace the mission and vision of Escape YFGK (Escape Ministries).

Position Responsibilities

Alternative Suspension Accountability Program (ASAP)
Familiarity with online curriculum such as Odysseyware, Edgenuity, and American High School
Partner with local school district liaisons to coordinate and monitor academic plans for each student as well as submitting updates and report cards to families and school personnel
Facilitate the application and intake process with student, parent and learning coach
Develop individualized learning plan for each incoming student and update those plans when needed
Keep accurate records of progress for each student
Advocate for and prepare students for their school’s readmission process
Coordinate internal disciplinary process for students who have been dismissed from ASAP program

After School Tutoring Program
Plan, develop and execute an effective tutoring program for middle and high school students
Recruit students to participate in tutoring program
Train volunteer tutors and interns
Create daily activities and schedule and assign staff and volunteers
Assist students with assignments and homework, projects, test preparation and other academic task
Prepare learning materials and set up learning spaces
Communicate with school officials and teachers regarding student’s enrollment and assignments
Interact with students to provide guidance, support, and motivation to complete task
Teaching skills to improve academic performance such as study strategies, time management and organizational skills

Summer Programming
Develop enrichment activities and programs for students in 6th-12th grades that will combat the summer learning loss
Create opportunities for outdoor learning and exploration
Manage learning coaches, summer staff and volunteers
Plan and coordinate field trips

Desire to work with students academically in a non-traditional setting
Certified Teacher, preferably in secondary education
Passion for middle and high school students
Experience in program development and relationship-building
Understanding of ACES, Trauma-Informed Care and Restorative Practices
1-3 years’ experience in a leadership capacity at a youth serving non-profit, public school or other community-based organization working with youth in vulnerable situations and/or youth living in neighborhoods impacted by poverty
Experience working with diverse populations and demonstrated ability for cultural competency
Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan and manage multiple programs
Leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics, problem solving, decision making and delegation
Ability to hire, train, and develop staff and volunteers
Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and Google Docs
Licensed and insured driver, with clean driving record and ability to drive a 12-passenger van
First Aid/CPR certification (required within three months of hire date)
Ability to pass background check
